Botox and Fillers

Smile lines (creases near the corners of the mouth), frown lines (creases between the brows), and crow’s feet (periorbital wrinkles) are examples of dynamic wrinkles. These dynamic wrinkles are primarily caused by movement such as facial expressions. These are the types of wrinkles that responds best to neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport. These injectable medications block the message from the motor nerve to the muscle, and as a result, the dynamic wrinkles soften and fade. This approach to dynamic wrinkles works better than just injecting a soft-tissue filler like Restlyane or Juvederm because it targets the cause of dynamic wrinkles. On the other hand any residual crease or wrinkle remaining after treatment of dynamic wrinkles or for wrinkles not caused by dynamic movement (e.g. cheek or upper lip), soft-tissue fillers, like Restylane and Juvederm, are a great step in softening or improvement.

Your Treatment

Injection with a neuromodulator like Botox or Dysport only takes a few minutes. The results start to appear in 4 to 7 days and last 3 to 4 months. With repeated and regular treatments the results may last longer as the muscles become smaller and more atrophied. So, the best alternative is to plan on a regular series of treatments to maintain and prolong the beneficial results.

Coolsculpting is an amazing, non-invasive procedure that works best in the treatment of areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Using cooling technology, fat cells are destroyed without damage to the overlying skin. The FDA-approved procedure entails the use of an applicator which draws the localized area of fat between two panels. These panels chill the area to a point that freezes fat cells but not the skin. These damaged or destroyed fat cells are eliminated by the body. The results are long lasting so long as you continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In other words, Coolsculpting will decrease the total number of fat cells, resulting in a reduction or smoothing of the area, but if you don’t maintain that healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise, you can still gain weight as the remaining fat cells can increase in size. For many people it is an easy and non-invasive way to get the results that they haven’t been able to reach.

The technology was developed by scientists affiliated with Harvard and is non-invasive and does not require anesthesia, sedation, needles or surgery. Treatment usually requires about one or two hours. Most patients relax or read or watch television during the treatment and can go back to normal activities immediately afterwards.

Coolsculpting is not a weight loss solution, but instead a treatment for localized areas that have not responded to diet and exercise. The most common areas treated include the lower abdomen, flanks (love handles), lateral hips (saddlebags) and back fat.

Consultations can be done in Santa Barbara as well as Thousand Oaks, but all treatments are done in Thousand Oaks due to the size and complexity of the machine and technology.

Hair Restoration- NeoGraft®

“State-of-the-Art” Solution for Hair Loss in Southern California

To many people a full head of hair represents attractiveness, youthfulness and desirability. As a result, treatment for male or female pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) can have a significant impact on one’s personal and professional life. There are options, both medical and surgical, that are available for both men and women.

Millions of men and women are significantly impacted by the effects of androgenetic alopecia. Many avoid hair restoration surgery because of older results that they have seen on other people, but current advances in hair restoration surgery have made the results much more natural and avoid some of the downtime or complications from the traditional or older style surgical procedure. In addition, advances in medical treatment of hair restoration help to complement and add to the results of contemporary surgical procedures.

The Center for Dermatology Care utilizes NeoGraft® Automated Hair Transplantation system in hair restoration surgery. NeoGraft is a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technology that allows our team to remove individual follicular units from the donor site. Rather than excising a strip and then dissecting that strip into follicular units, NeoGraft removes individual follicular units, immediately ready for transplant into the recipient area. Each of these follicular units usually has between one and three hairs per unit, which is the naturally occurring grouping seen in the normal scalp. The follicular-unit grafts are carefully placed in small slits in the recipient area, and the donor site wounds heals quickly without a linear scar or suturing.

Reasons Why NeoGraft® May Be Your Solution to Hair Loss:

  • A less invasive procedure for hair transplantation (no undermining, cauterization, tension)
  • There is usually little or no discomfort following NeoGraft®
  • No stitches or staples or cauterization are used in the NeoGraft® procedure
  • No unsightly linear scar (the tiny donor sites heal without suturing)
  • Greater flexibility for any hair style of your choice, short or long
  • Frequently quicker recovery time – patients can typically go back to work the next day
  • Few restrictions on your normal daily activities
  • Natural looking results because follicular-unit grafts are used

Kybella is a nonsurgical, FDA-approved treatment for submental adiposity (sometimes referred to as a “double chin”). It is the first injectable treatment for this condition and can provide significant results in both men and women. Submental fullness may be related to aging, familial predisposition and weight gain and is frequently resistant to both diet and exercise. Nearly as many consumers are bothered by a double chin or submental fullness as they are by lines and wrinkles around the eyes (according to a survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery).

The treatment is relatively simple and consists of the physician injecting the solution into the localized fat beneath the chin. Patients may note some temporary burning, swelling or discomfort as the fat cells are destroyed or broken down by the medication. Results are usually seen in 1-3 months and additional treatments may be necessary to get the desired results.
