Kybella™ Santa Barbara
NEW TREATMENT FOR DOUBLE CHIN: KYBELLA™
“We are among the first physicians in Santa Barbara county to offer Kybella™ to our patients, a new, fat-dissolving injection for treatment of submental fullness (double chin).” -Andrew J. Kaufman, M.D., F.A.C.P.
The Center for Dermatology Care is now offering Kybella™, a nonsurgical, FDA approved way to improve your chin profile. Kybella™ is the first injectable drug for submental fullness, or “double chin”. Submental fullness impacts a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain and is often resistant to diet and exercise.
Kybella is a synthetic formulation of a naturally occurring compound, deoxycholic acid. In its natural form deoxycholic acid is stored in the gallbladder and excreted into the gut when a person eats a fatty meal, breaking down the ingested fat into absorbable nutrients. With Kybella the medication is injected into a localized region of fat cells and breaks down the fat cells. The remnants of these fat cells are cleared by the body and the localized fullness improves. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat again.
Each in-office treatment session with Kybella™ is typically about 30 minutes.
With this nonsurgical treatment, many patients experience visible results in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. Treatment with Kybella™ is customized by your doctor to fit the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile.
The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and formation of areas of firmness in the treatment area. In clinical trials, the incidence and severity of most side effects decreased with subsequent Kybella™ treatments.
